Plants of the Wild FAQ’s

We propagate 150-200 different varieties of groundcovers, grasses, wetland plants, wildflowers, shrubs, and trees, with a focus on the western US and Northwest natives. Starting with small tublings, and going up to 5-gallon containers in select items.

Our availability changes throughout the year and items fluctuate regularly. Our new crop is typically ready in September, and that is when our availability numbers are the highest. That fall crop is the same crop we use through the following spring.

The quick -n- easy answer is “now”. If you know what you are going to need next month, next season, next year, now is the time to order. We do not require a deposit on most orders. Special orders or contracts may have a deposit required.

We start our plugs from seed. They are stratified here on-site in our lab and then sown individually by hand. No automatic seeders here! We work with many different companies throughout the industry to get the seeds we need, harvested at the appropriate times and from appropriate sources to ensure success.

Nope! You can order just one plant, or one pound of seed if you want. Our prices per size are based on quantity ordered, so the more you order the cheaper the price.

Between Covid-19 restrictions and the retiring of our primary "retail guy" we have decided to remain closed to walk-through customers, and focus on production.  This DOES NOT mean we don't look forward to assisting you and making sure you get exactly what you want!!

We are happy to prepare orders for delivery via our trucks, shipping via UPS, or pick-up here in front of our office. We are also still open to small, private tours on a scheduled, case-by-case basis for garden clubs and the like. Just give us a call to see what your options are.

We can typically have an order turned around in just a couple of days. There are exceptions of course. Please keep in mind that orders are not processed on Saturday or Sunday, and seasonally that 1-2 day timeline may need to be a bit longer.

We are proud to report we ship via UPS all over the US with great success!! For larger container orders in our local area, we will deliver them via one of our own trucks, or we can make arrangements for LTL deliveries. Shipping price quotes vary and are done on a case by case basis that takes in many different factors. You are also welcome to pick up your orders here at the nursery, and we can arrange that for after hours and weekends, too. Whatever is most convenient for you!

We limit our shipping from June through September for the health of the plants. Shipping live plants is an art! Our crew is very talented in packing them so they arrive in great condition, but the weather plays a huge part in that success. We prefer to ship on Mondays or Tuesdays to be sure the plants arrive at their destination and aren’t sitting over a weekend in a truck or on a loading dock somewhere.

All of our plants are priced by the container (volume) size and quantity. These dimensions are in regard to the root mass of the plant. The top (stem and foliage) sizes of all the plants vary from species to species.
