Description
This warm-season bunchgrass thrives in moderate moisture but will tolerate drought once established. Deeply rooted 6-10′, spreads by tough rhizomes creating dense stands 3-9′ tall. The base of the stem turns blue or purple as it matures. Summer blooms followed by seed heads in to the fall tend to resemble a wild turkey’s foot. High protein content makes it good forage for horses and cattle, and also does well in hay. Excellent wildlife cover.
- Drought Tolerant: moderate
