Description
Dogbane, also known as Indian Hemp due to the strong silky fibers in the stem, was used by Native Americans to make rope, clothing, hunting and fishing nets, baskets, etc. Adapts to many soil types and conditions. A pioneer species in abused wetlands, abandoned fields, vacant lots and ditches and along fence rows and railroads. White flowers in july and August atop 2.5-5′ stems are sought out by numerous butterflies, moths, bees and beetles.
