Description
A native bunchgrass to approximately 3′ depending on site. Commonly found amongst Sagebrush, Junipers and into Ponderosa Pine forests in well-drained sites. Will not tolerate extremes in acidity or alkalinity. The name comes from the sharp needle-like seed head and twisting “thread-like” awn. Provides good browse for big game and livestock before the seed has matured.
