Description

This meadow grass is native to Europe but is found world-wide.  One of the first to be found in disturbed sites, it can form an extensive sod in dry, slightly acidic conditions.  This bunchy sod grass typically grows 1-2′ tall in full sun or partial shade, doing well in tough sites.  Provides good erosion control but can become invasive in ideal conditions.  Among its many redeeming qualities, the foliage is palatable to large game as well as most livestock and it plays host to many bugs.
